RESUMO

Objective: To evaluate the effects of re-tucking the superior oblique muscle on recurrent or residual compensatory head position. Methods: A retrospective case series study was conducted. 12 recurrent or residual compensatory head position patients (12 eyes) with congenital superior oblique palsy who underwent superior oblique re-tucking in Tianjin Eye Hospital from March 2015 to February 2021 were included. All patients had a history of superior oblique tucking procedure and showed signs of superior oblique muscle palsy without inferior oblique muscle overaction. During surgery, the Guyton forced duction test is used to evaluate the relaxation of the superior oblique muscle tendon, which affects the re-tucking length of the muscle.Their head position, vertical deviation, eye movement, fovea-disa angle, and Bielschowsky head tilt test were assessed pre-and post-surgery. Statistical analysis was performed using ttest and paired samples Wilcoxon signed rank test. Results: Out of the 12 patients, 8 were male and 4 were female, aged between 2 and 9 years. The initial surgery was done at age 6, with a superior oblique recession length of (7.17±1.03) mm. Recurrent head tilt occurred in 11 patients after (3.82±0.98) months postoperatively, and 1 patient had residual head tilt, with a followup period of six months or more. Ocular motility examination revealed underaction of the superior oblique muscle, positive Bielschowsky's head tilt test, and Guyton forced duction tese indicating relaxation of the paralyzed superior oblique muscle tendon. Scar adhesion was observed at the stop of the superior oblique muscle, as well as the previous sutures. The scar and the sutures around the stop of the superior oblique muscle were released, the mean re-tucking amount was(7.83±1.59)mm. Follow-up at 12 to 18 months postoperatively showed disappearance of compensatory head position, significant improvement in superior oblique muscle lag, normal ocular motility, and no occurrence of Brown syndrome. The results of Bielschowsky head tilt were negative in 9 cases and still positive in 3 cases after superior oblique re-tucking. The primary vertical deviation was 2.5 (2.0, 5.3) prism diopter pre-operatively and 1 (0, 1) prism diopter post-operatively, respectively. The difference was statistically significant (U=6.00, P<0.001). The total amount of FDA in both eyes was (-22.04±5.47)° and (-15.27±6.08)° pre-and post-operatively, respectively. The difference was statistically significant (t=2.87, P=0.009). All 12 patients have normal eye movement after superior oblique re-tucking procedure. All patients had no compensatory head position at last follow-up. Conclusions: Superior oblique re-tucking is suitable for patients with relaxation of the superior oblique muscle tendon and extrocular rotation as the main sign. It can effectively and safely correct the recurrent or residual compensatory head position after re-tucking the superior oblique muscle.

RESUMO

Objective: To study the effect of the injected bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSC) on rats with pulmonary fibrosis induced by paraquat (PQ) during different poisoning periods and explore the potential mechanism. Methods: From October to December 2018, BMSCs of SPF SD rats were isolated and purified by whole-bone marrow adherent culture method and cultured to the Third Generation (P3) . The surface antigens CD29, CD90, CD45 and CD34 of P3 BMSC were detected by Flow cytometry, the formation of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) , calcium nodules and fat droplets were observed by ALP, Alizarin Red staining and oil red O staining. At the same time, 36 SPF male rats were randomly divided into 6 groups: NC Group (Blank Control Group, injected with the same amount of saline) and PQ group (PQ model group, injected with 20% PQ solution 18 mg/kg intraperitoneally) , bMSC-A group, BMSC-B group, BMSC-C group and BMSC-D group were injected with BMSC suspension 1×10(6) cells/mice at 3 h、3 d、7 d and 14 d after PQ poisoning. After 28 days, the rats were killed, the lung organ coefficients were calculated, the hydroxyproline (HYP) content in lung tissue was calculated by alkaline hydrolysis, and the lung injury and fibrosis were observed by HE and Masson staining, serum TGF-1、TNF-α、MMP-9 and TIMP-1 were detected by Elisa. Results: High Purity BMSCs were successfully isolated and obtained. The P3 BMSC generation was positive expression of CD29、CD90、and negative expression of CD34、CD45, and had the potential of osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation. The results of HE staining and Masson staining showed that the alveolar structure in NC group was intact and homogeneous, in PQ group, the alveolar structure was severely damaged and a lot of collagen fibers and fibroblasts were deposited, and the degrees of lung injury in each BMSC intervention group were obviously less than in PQ group, in BMSC-A group and BMSC-B group, the degrees of reduction were obvious. Compared with NC group, the Lung organ coefficient, HYP content in lung tissue and TGF-ß1, TIMP-1 levels in serum were significantly higher in PQ group (P<0.05) , while TNF-α and MMP-9 had no significant difference (P>0.05) . Compared with PQ group, the lung organ Coefficients, HYP, TGF-1 and TIMP-ß1 in BMSC-A and BMSC-B groups were lower than those in PQ group (P<0.05) . The Lung organ coefficients, TGF-ß1 and TIMP-1 in BMSC-C and BMSC-D groups were lower than those in PQ group, there was no significant difference (P>0.05) . Conclusion: Early BMSC injecting can alleviate pulmonary fibrosis induced by PQ. The mechanism may be that BMSC can reduce pulmonary fibrosis through reducing the level of TGF-ß1 and regulating the balance of TIMP-1/MMP-9, threrby reducing inflammatory damage and increasing the degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM) .

RESUMO

Objective: To study the hearing status and analyze the related influencing factors in noise-exposed workers in an automobile manufacture enterprise, and put forward suggestions for prevention of noise-induced hearing loss. Methods: Noise exposure level testing, audiometry testing and questionnaires were performed for noise exposed workers in the automobile manufacture enterprise. To analyze the relationship between different factors and noise-induced hearing loss by cumulative noise exposure(CNE) calculated 8-hour continuous A-weighted equivalent noise level and seniority. Results: The detection rate of hearing loss in noise-exposed workers was 22.8%. The noise exposure intensity of stamping workshop is higher than other workshop, and the hearing loss detection rate of stamping workshop workers is higher than other workshop workers. The detection rate of hearing loss has significant difference in L(Aeq·8 h), seniority, CNE, age, high temperature and wearing earplugs (P<0.05). The results of logistic regression analysis showed that CNE, age and high-temperature were risk factors for noise-induced hearing loss (P<0.05 and OR>1) and there was an increasing tendency of hearing loss with increase in length of service and CNE, while using of earplugs was a protective factor (P<0.05 and OR<1). With the increase of CNE, the incidence of hearing loss is the rising trend. Conclusion: It is suggested to strengthen the noise control and individual protection and improve the high-temperature working environment, which plays an important role in reducing the occurrence of noise-induced hearing loss.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Skin ageing especially senile lentigo directly affects self-esteem. For decades, senile lentigo has been associated with chronic exposure to solar radiation. However, a study conducted recently in Caucasian subjects suggested that exposure to air pollution was significantly correlated with extrinsic skin ageing, in particular senile lentigines. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the association between fine particulate matter (PM2.5 ) and skin ageing, particularly senile lentigo and seborrheic keratosis. METHODS: The study enrolled 400 Chinese women aged 40-90 years including 210 from the Yanqing county in Beijing (low PM2.5 exposure group) and 190 from the Xuanwumen in Beijing (high PM2.5 exposure group). Skin ageing symptoms, particularly senile lentigines and seborrheic keratoses, were clinically assessed using scores of intrinsic and extrinsic skin ageing. An ordinal logistic regression model was used to analyse the effect of PM2.5 on skin ageing adjusted for factors underlying skin ageing. RESULTS: In the study population of Xuanwumen, we found that senile lentigo on cheeks and back of hands was 1.48 times and 2.8 times higher, respectively, compared with those from Yanqing county. However, no association was found between PM2.5 and seborrheic keratosis. We found that other variables such as smoking, second-hand smoking, contact with fossil fuels and skin types were significantly associated with skin ageing. CONCLUSION: These results indicate that PM2.5 was another extrinsic factor promoting skin ageing.

RESUMO

The present study was designed to evaluate the effect of a new iron tonic (squid ink melanin-Fe [SM-Fe]) on remission of iron deficiency anemia (IDA) using a rat model of IDA. The rat IDA model was established with low-iron diet feeding and caudal vein blooding. Then different dosages of SM-Fe were given to the rats once a day by intragastric administration, with FeSO4 and FeCl3 as positive control. The content of Hemoglobin (Hb), red blood cell (RBC), hematocrit (HCT), and mean corpuscular volume (MCV) were analyzed in addition to the contents of serum iron (SI) and intracellular free erythrocyte protoporphyrin (FEP). The content of malondialdehyde (MDA) and the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in serum was also measured. The results showed that anemia caused by iron deficiency was established as a consequence of the low-iron diets. SM-Fe showed an effective restoration action by returning Hb, RBC, HCT, MCV, SI, and FEP in IDA animals to normal values. An antioxidant effect was also observed that reduced MDA level, enhanced the activities of SOD and GSH-Px in serum, and protected erythrocytes from the injury of reactive oxygen species as a consequence of SM-Fe intake. In comparison with FeSO4 and FeCl3, higher bioavailability of iron and fewer side effects were also observed. In conclusion, SM-Fe remitted iron deficiency anemia symptoms significantly, suggesting that SM-Fe might contribute to improving hemopoietic function in IDA rats and might be exploited as a safe, efficient new iron tonic.

RESUMO

Frequency-domain correlative cardiography (FCG) is a new non-invasive technique for diagnosing heart disease. FCG was performed in 110 patients who also underwent coronary cineangiography. 12-lead ECG and treadmill exercise testing to determine its diagnostic role in coronary heart disease (CHD). In the group with CHD 61 had true-positive and 8 false-negative FCG results, while in the group without CHD 30 were true-negative and 11 false-positive. Its sensitivity is 88.4%, specificity 73.2%, correct diagnostic rate 84.3% and predictive value 84.7%. The diagnostic efficacy of FCG is better than those of 12-lead ECG and treadmill exercise test. These results indicate that FCG is a valuable noninvasive method for detecting patients with CHD.

RESUMO

The human dopamine transporter was expressed in Xenopus laevis oocytes following injection of mRNA isolated from human brain substantia nigra. The specific accumulation of [3H]dopamine into these oocytes was time and Na+ dependent. Furthermore, [3H]dopamine accumulation was prevented by coincubation of oocytes with dopamine (100 microM) or with the dopamine uptake inhibitors GBR 12909 (1 microM) or cocaine (3 microM). In contrast, oocyte injection of mRNA isolated from human globus pallidus, an area devoid of dopamine neuron perikarya, did not elicit expression of the dopamine transporter. Oocyte expression of the human dopamine transporter can be used for the further characterization and cloning of this low-abundance membrane protein.
